🥛 Mayonnaise Substitute
In place of mayonnaise, we will be using macadamia cream. This two-ingredient plant based cream is a great staple to keep in your fridge to make sauces and dressing on the fly mid-week. I also just love how the bright white macadamias mimic the look of ranch dressing so well.
You can find the recipe for my super simple homemade macadamia cream on my instagram page.
Alternatively use the following recipe to make a quick batch.
📋 Ingredients
Here are all the ingredients you will need to make the vegan ranch dressing:
- Macadamia cream (made from soaked macadamia nuts, apple cider vinegar and water, see recipe above). You can also substitute with cashew or sunflower cream.
- Dried herbs: I used dill and parsley, but you can also use chives. I chose dried over fresh for the deeper flavour and so that the dressing stays fresher for longer.
- Lemon juice - adds a zing to the dressing plus means you don’t need as much salt. You could substitute for apple cider vinegar if you don’t have fresh lemons to hand.
- Garlic – you’ll want to go for fresh to really get the same kick of ranch dressing. A little goes a long way, one small clove is plenty, but you can use half of one if you don’t love the garlicky after taste.
- Paprika, black pepper and onion powder – to add another layer of flavour.
- Plant milk – be sure to use unsweetened. This will help to thin the sauce without it becoming too watery.
🥣 Instructions
Provided you already have your macadamia cream on hand, you can simply combine and then stir together the ingredients in a bowl, adding the plant milk last. That way you can decide how much milk to add depending on the consistency you prefer.
This dressing can be enjoyed right away, but I find keeping it in the fridge for a couple of hours beforehand intensifies the flavour.
💫 Substitutions
If you can’t eat macadamias or just don’t have them to hand, you can also substitute for cashew or sunflower cream, however, note that cashews are not included in the Candida Diet.
🥡 Storage
As with any fresh dressings, this dressing should be stored in an airtight container and consumed within a couple of days.
🍽 Serving Suggestions
This ranch dip is so versatile and will add the wow-factor to several dishes. Some of my favourite ways to serve this dressing include:
- Serve with crispy roasted broccoli fresh from the oven – tastes just like cheese and onion crisps!
- As a dip for raw veggies to make a quick and easy snack
- As a salad dressing to liven up simple ingredients such as chicken, beans and pulses
- In your favourite healthy burgers
- With crunchy baked onion rings
- Mix in some flaked fish or smashed chickpeas to create a simple sandwich filling
- Finally, this dressing is amazing with eggs!
