What is Candida Overgrowth?
Intestinal dybiosis, candida overgrowth, candidiasis, leaky gut, yeast overgrowth, bacterial overgrowth, imbalanced microbiome... however you want to call it, put simply, all of these definitions describe an imbalance of bacteria in the body, namely too much bad bacteria.
The word candida, refers to Candida Albicans which is a family of fungi that can occur naturally in the intestines in harmless quantities. When this particular family of not-so-fun-guys gets out of control, however, it can lead to a number of unpleasant symptoms and health conditions.
Symptoms of a Candida Overgrowth include sleep issues, skin conditions, intense sugar cravings, weight issues, brain fog, anxiety and depression, recurrent infections and menstrual issues, to name a few.
The Candida Diet
The Candida Diet is a type of elimination diet that focuses on restoring order to the gut microbiome.
As well as avoiding foods high in sugars that feed Candida, such as fruit and carbohydrates, dairy, gluten and alcohol, foods that are prone to molds or yeast are also avoided to prevent further exposure.
In it's place, a varied diet of plants and healthy fats and proteins, anti-microbial and anti-inflammatory foods are encouraged to heal the damage caused to your body, and get your health back to where it should be.
About
Hey there, I'm Carly! I followed the Candida Diet back in 2018 and it completely changed my life for the better, so now I want to help you too.
Despite appearing seemingly healthy on the outside, before the diet I was struggling with a number of ailments such as skin problems, hormonal issues, mouth ulcers, insomnia, nightmares and chronic fatigue to name a few. My body just felt off. I knew something wasn't right, but I just could not find the answer. I felt like I had tried everything; blood tests to check for deficiencies, food diaries and elimination diets to check for an intolerance, acupuncture and even hypnosis.
And then finally one day I had the answer. A urine test revealed that I had a severe overgrowth of intestinal candida. The good news; most, if not all of my symptoms were in line with having an overgrowth of bad gut bacteria, which was treatable. The bad news; to do this I would need to follow The Candida diet for at least one year!
Fast forward one year, and I was a changed woman. I was feeling the best I had ever felt and on top of that, when I was tested again, the overgrowth had indeed been resolved.
The thought that there might be others out there going through exactly the same thing as me is reason enough to have started Anti Candida Kitchen. So now it's your turn!
